First, I hope they think, “I’m glad I made it.” If the bedding feels fresh and the check-in instructions make sense, half my work is already done. After a long journey, a door lock that works is often more welcome than a beautiful sentence. (laughs)
Why make a temporary home in Dongpyeon Village?
The cafe street gets the attention first, but daily life is what makes people stay: groceries across the road, a nearby library, the forest trail and easy links to Indeogwon, Gwacheon and Seoul. You can have a very good day here without making an ambitious plan.
What does ‘prepared like a home’ mean in practice?
I like a handsome cushion too, of course. (laughs) But blackout curtains, air conditioning in every room, a kitchen that is actually useful and somewhere to do the laundry matter more after the third night. I prepare for real mornings, not just the first photograph.
Who did you have in mind when preparing the house?
People in the middle of a chapter: a work assignment, a move, a family visit or a return to Korea after time abroad. With three bedrooms, everyone can share dinner and still close a door for a quiet hour. That small distance can be very good for family harmony. (laughs)
How do you balance privacy with attentive hosting?
I send clear self check-in details and stay easy to reach through 33m2, then I let guests get on with their day. Too many messages from a host can start to feel like homework. (laughs) Door codes and other sensitive details stay inside the private guest guide.
When does a short stay feel successful?
When a guest stops feeling like a visitor. They know where the mugs are, have a favorite walk and say, “We’re heading home,” when they mean this house. Cleanliness and convenience matter, but that ordinary little sentence is the nicest review.
